Agricultural Fire

On April 30 at 01:30 AM the Engine and Tanker were dispatched to a barn fire on Eby Chiques Rd in West Hempfield Twp. Units arrived to find a feed room fully involved with 2 silos and the main barn as exposures. 76 units were first arriving and utilized a master stream from Tanker 76 to quickly knock the bulk of the fire and contained the fire to the building of origin.
It was then discovered there was active fire in both silos. Efforts were then made to extinguish the silo fires.
After further investigation from a silo fire expert, it was determined the fire originated by spontaneous combustion inside the one silo and spread to the feed room. Units operated for about 7 hours before returning.
